"Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" - ACT I, ACT II, ACT III - one of the most innovative pieces of entertainment in a long while. Created by Joss Whedon (of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fame), his brothers Jed and Zack, and Maurissa Tancharoen, this film is a sci-fi/fantasy musical short produced exclusively for the Internet. Starring Neil Patrick Harris ("How I Met Your Mother"; Broadway's 2003 Tony-winning revival of Assassins), Felicia Day ("Buffy"; "The Guild"), and Nathan Fillion ("Firefly"), this stunning film centers around Dr. Horrible, a "low-rent supervillian," and his attempts to join the Evil League of Evil and win the girl of his dreams. Outstanding, hilarious and hauntingly beautiful. Free to watch. Available for purchase on a DVD chock full of extras (including a brilliant musical commentary track appropriately named Commentary! The Musical) here.
"The Guild"- starring, written, and produced by the aforementioned Felicia Day, this "sitcom webisode" is hilarious and relevant, telling the story of a group of obsessed gamers, all Generation XYZ--dealing with their addiction to World of Warcraft, and with each other. Like "Dr. Horrible," Ms. Day's work furthers the concept of creative web content, taking creative control out of the hands of the suits and putting it back where it belongs--with the artists. Excellent work. Free to watch.
